Subzero underwater clean-up!

In February 2024, an Alaska Clean Harbors (ACH) representative traveled to Whittier to support an underwater harbor cleanup organized by Dive Alaska.

Partnering with Ocean Conservancy, the City of Whittier, Alaska Dive Search Rescue & Recovery, Prince William Sound Stewardship Foundation, and 94 volunteers from across the state, the team removed nearly 4,000 pounds of trash from the harbor and its surroundings. This event marked the second annual cleanup hosted by Dive Alaska to give back to the dive community and promote conservation.

Alex Fancher, Training Director of Dive Alaska, hopes to make this initiative a regular occurrence and has garnered significant interest from other harbors. ACH looks forward to future collaborations with Dive Alaska and other grassroots and community organizations.

The cleanup was featured by Alaska’s News Source, highlighting its success and impact.
